Cheltenham College Overview
Cheltenham College is located in the heart of the Cotswolds in South West England, covering an area of 72 acres. It takes about an hour to travel from Birmingham Airport to Cheltenham, and there are regular bus services from Heathrow Airport to Cheltenham every two hours. The school was originally named Cheltenham Proprietary College, founded in 1841, and it initially admitted only boys with the aim of educating the sons of gentlemen. The original site was at Bays Hill Terrace in the town centre, but it was later relocated to its current site on Bath Road and rebranded as Cheltenham College. In 1969, the school welcomed girls for the first time and transitioned to co-education in 1998. Cheltenham is regarded as one of the most family-friendly towns and is considered a desirable location for the middle class and above in the UK. It is close to areas of natural beauty, with the famous city of Oxford just beyond.
